Nursing 2115 Information

Mental Health and Medical Surgical Nursing

This course introduces the student to nursing care for patients of all ages with stressors affecting: alterations in mental health and behavior, autoimmune disorders, neoplasms, endocrine, hepatic, biliary, gastrointestinal, urinary/renal, hematopoietic functioning. All units contain physical, cultural and psychological stressors which are considered as co-contributors to the development of various disease processes.  Developmental and legal/ethical are integrated throughout the course. Specific stressors interfering with regulation, nutrition, homeostasis, elimination and adaptive coping patterns are examined in terms of the nursing process. Specific patient problems and their influence on other basic needs, as described by Maslow are identified. (Prerequisites: Completion of NUR 1125,Nur 1128, NUR 122, all science classes and PSY 206.) (Corequisite NUR 2118).
